In the past two years, I've lost almost 1/3 of my hair. The shower floor is covered and when I comb the comb and countertop are covered. I just read an article about this being a symptom of fibromyalgia and had never considered that before.

I too am experiencing this , I will be 63 at end of month . I asked my beautician and she didn't think I was and told me I have tons of hair . I know we usually can expect to lose hair at a rate of 100 a day and that's the norm for anybody . But I know I lose some after any surgery I have and I just had hand surgery . Also after any trauma whether physical or emotional can do it to . My Sister had a really bad ordeal and was hospitalized for 6 mo and died twice and was put on the vent to save her . Anyway when she got home I went to spend some time with her and her husband and I were washing her hair for her and I was shocked at how much hair she was losing I looked up at him and he just acknowledged it by mouthing I know . That was 2 yrs ago and her hair grew back as she got better , it was even curly for awhile ! But everything is back to normal now .
I haven't read about it specifically in Fibro but wouldn't surprise me.
yes so very true your nerves ,can cause one to lose hair ! but the vitamin B complex is so very helpful also ! i am just saying ! i have my 84 year old MOMMY using the folic acid and when she takes it does wonders for her ! and no i don't work for the vitamin company ! ha--ha ! just trying to help because my mommy always cries about her hair ! so i am trying to help her and anyone else i might help as i am helping that's it ! prayers of a full head of hair ! Amen !love peace joy and God's love ! always michele p.s do not wash your hair that much , and also do not put the shampoo on the top of your head start with it on the bottom or middle of yous hair
Having anxiety which is another gift of Fibro . Also can add to some hair loss at high anxiety times. I have found more than normal hair loss after any surgeries. ( supposedly normal hair loss is 100 strands a day )
Thank you for all your comments. Many of you said folic acid. I've been taking one by prescription for 4 months and haven't noticed any improvement. My thyroid tests are normal too. I do get anxious easily so maybe that's it. I see my doctor again next week so will bring it up to him.
@A MyFibroTeam Member , Hi Melinda , my Dr put me on Folic Acid 1 mg about a couple months ago , not for any c/o hair loss .At the time we were trying to find something to help my finger nails that have suddenly decided to have some of the nails grow bazaarly .......for instance my 2 thumbnails look a ski slope with a couple moguls ( kind of like an s on its side ! lol , a double nail on the middle finger left hand .....bunch of very strange things for me this year ( I am going to ask him if he will make it a 2 mg or let me take it twice a day . Glad you posted today .
