Members with autoimmune conditions like Sjögren's syndrome shared their struggles with severe dental problems, including receding gums, tooth loss, infections, and burning mouth syndrome, often caused by reduced saliva production and medication side effects. Several members offered practical strategies that have helped them, including oil pulling with coconut or olive oil, using specialized toothpaste and rubber gum massagers for periodontitis, and applying prescription gels and mouthwashes designed for gum health. A recurring theme was the frustration of expensive treatments, the slow healing process, and the emotional toll of watching teeth deteriorate despite diligent oral care, yet members encouraged each other to keep fighting and not give up.

Yes, gingivitus and bleeding gums, despite flossing and brushing regularily, i have just started a new thing: oil pulling. It is used in India to cleanse teeth. You get a teaspoon of natural coconut or olive oil and swish it in your mouth and through your teeth for 20 min. ( it will bubble up) amazing what comes out of the gums and teeth. I follow up with a good brushing because the oil leaves a bit of a film, mouth feels super clean after.

Mine are receding due to no saliva from Sjogrens Syndrome.

Another consideration...those with gerd are more prone to gum and teeth issues from the stomach acid. Also if you use a bile binding agent for ibs-d or if you take protonix, those both cause gingivitis and can make teeth have issues. I speak from experience.
