I had an assessment at HealthPointe with three doctors and at the end of 3 1/2 hrs I really felt like they want me to do it on my own with no meds. Plus i am on AISH and can try to get the benefits approved to get me some help. Right now i do walking and swimming. My family doctor who is new and doesnt know about this disease gave me meds but i am still in pain.
I see a rheumatologist and feel he doesn't really listen to what I'm saying in where I hurt. I have joint pain at night in my fingers, elbows, knees and feet. He doesn't think it's arthritis that it's from my fibromylagia. The next time I see him I'm going to get him to listen to me for more than 5 min.
I've gone through a list of GPs. My reasons for leaving varied. Whether they didn't believe me, felt it wasn't important, or just terrible treatment of patients.
Just found a family doctor who listens to me and believes me and is willing to work with me. Hasn't given me a diagnosis of fibro but is working with me to get the right meds that'll help me.
My best advice: keep looking until you find one that will listen to you.
When I was first being diagnosed they kept trying to tell me I was just depressed and what I was feeling was just physical manifestations of a phych problem. :P Unfortunately not every doctor is equipped to handle complex cases like fibromyalgia. There are too many GPs out there that just want to write prescriptions for colds and aren't ready for cases involving multiple issues. Hang in there! The right doctor is out there! Just don't let them tell you it's all in your head. Unfortunately you have to advocate for yourself.
I have a great rheumatologist she is very easy to talk to and always listens to me I must be one of the lucky ones because I know of others who don't have the same patient care that I get.
