I have not heard of Asian or East Indian people with Fibromyalgia. Does Ethnic or cultural background play a role? Is it diet related? This is a puzzle to me.
Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Members explored whether ethnicity or cultural background influences fibromyalgia prevalence, with the strong consensus being that fibromyalgia does not discriminate and affects people across all ethnic groups, genders, and backgrounds. Several members shared personal experiences representing diverse heritages including Indian, Spanish, English, Danish, Native American, and Jewish descent, while others pointed to gut health, diet modifications (particularly eliminating starches and gluten), probiotics, and childhood trauma as potential factors worth investigating. A recurring theme was that fibromyalgia may appear less common in certain populations due to cultural attitudes toward diagnosis, differing healthcare access, or lifestyle factors like traditional diets and fasting practices, rather than true immunity based on ethnicity.

If you google "fibromyalgia ethnicity " some peer reviewed articles come up indicating no apparent ethnic preference for this lovely disorder

Good question, Claire. I do not know any Asian or East Indian folks with fibro either. Doesn't mean there aren't any. Many do not eat meat. Rice and vegetables for many are their main meals. So long term eating habits and lifestyle could play a part. Genetically speaking many do not appear to have the same tendency for particular conditions such as diabetes, asthma, etc. I have researched and studied on Ghandi who was a leader in East India. He adopted his own unique lifestyle and was very healthy and good living. Fasting is also a regular part of life for many of them. Overindulgence is not a way of life for them as well. They live peaceful lives generally. But that is not to say they have never experienced violence or trauma. Ayerveda is another practice which takes in diet and lifestyle. It's something to research at least.

One thought is that it is a disease which societal response might dictate diagnosis. In other words, some cultures may not be receptive to the idea of fibromyalgia and therefore it may not even be recognized
