Knee Giving Way

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Stockport, UK

I've always suffered with this but over the past week it become more of a problem. In the past it would happen once ever 3 months or so. Today alone it's happened 5 times. I don't fell just feel like someone has hit me across the back of one knee. But happens to both knees thankfully never so far been at the same time. I was diagnosed with restless leg syndrome on Friday so wasn't sure if it was part of that or not.

Thanks

Members strongly connected over experiencing knees that suddenly give way, with many sharing that this symptom has worsened over time and led to falls or near-falls, prompting several to use walking sticks, canes, or walkers for safety. Several members described being diagnosed with osteoarthritis or fibromyalgia after getting knee X-rays, with practical suggestions including knee braces, ibuprofen for pain relief, physiotherapy referrals, and advocating with doctors for imaging and proper evaluation. A recurring theme was the challenge of distinguishing whether knee instability stems from fibromyalgia, arthritis, or both, along with shared frustration that symptoms often worsen despite treatment and the importance of staying proactive with medical appointments to prevent serious falls.

I exercise 5-6 days a week, workouts and treadmill runs and my knees never stop,I fell the other day while working out because of my left knee, the areas of your knees and ankles are also pressure points in fibro this is normally where my pain starts when I flare,my knees then radiates to my ankles leaving my shins in a bind almost like shin splints.
