Members connected over managing osteoarthritis alongside fibromyalgia, with many confirming they experience swelling in knees, ankles, and legs that makes navigating stairs extremely difficult and sometimes dangerous. Several members shared practical strategies including wearing knee braces, using four-footed canes for extra leverage, applying aloe vera for rashes, getting physical therapy, trying steroid injections, and installing chair lifts at home to maintain independence. A recurring theme was the shared struggle of living with both conditions and the importance of pacing oneself, using mobility aids without shame, and finding small adaptations that make daily life more manageable.

I am always having problems with my knees but not my ankles.. I usually have to prop my knees up in the afternoon. my bathroom is upstairs so I understand how you have to be on steps all day because I do also.

we have stairs too...bad leg first going down, good leg up. i have several canes, one is four footed and is great for leverage when getting up. it is hard to cope with both but i use a knee brace from time to time, have had PT, steriod injections have helped, short termed, but some have longer success.
