Members strongly resonated with the question about shortness of breath after routine activities, with many confirming they experience similar breathlessness from simple tasks like grocery shopping, vacuuming, or even walking room to room. Several members shared possible contributing factors including asthma worsened by fibromyalgia, costochondritis causing chest tightness and diaphragm issues, COPD, peripheral neuropathy, stress-induced shallow breathing, and weather conditions like humidity or extreme temperatures. A recurring theme was the frustration of being unable to complete activities that once felt effortless, with members finding solidarity in needing frequent rest breaks and accepting that breathlessness may simply be another difficult symptom to manage alongside fibromyalgia.

Costocondritis can certainly cause this. Also shallow breathing from stress even if you don't feel stressed. Your body is responding to pain in ways you may not realise.

Sometimes the pressure points in my chest can start to flare, causing my diagphragm to kind of seize up. That can make it hard to breathe.

Yes! All the time! Today we went grocery shopping, and by the time we got home and unloaded everything, I just had to sit down and catch my breath for about 15 minutes.

I have asthma for the last 35 years and the weather effects my breathing and very cold, very windy days find it difficult to breathe, same for hot, humid weather, walking too fast also.
