It breaks my heart when I'm flaring and my boyfriend asks "what can I do to help?" Because all I can say is really nothing because honestly not much anyone can do but I know he wants to help so bad,
What do y'all usually tell your partner when they ask questions like this?

Members shared heartfelt ways they respond when partners ask how to help during flares, with many expressing gratitude by saying thank you for being there, understanding, and simply being present even when nothing tangible can ease the pain. Several members described small but meaningful acts of support their partners provide, including fetching heating pads, ice packs, or medications, preparing comforting meals, offering gentle massages, making tea, or simply holding them and helping them laugh through difficult moments. A recurring theme was the importance of educating partners about the illness, communicating openly about needs, and recognizing that being together and feeling cared for can matter just as much as any physical help, though some members also acknowledged the painful reality of partners who stopped asking or left due to the burden of chronic illness.

I say thank you for being there and understanding. If I need anything, I will be sure and ask. If I need an ice pack or heating pad or meds my fiance is more than willing to get them for me. I think it helps him to help me in any little way he can. Even if its just letting me be to get thru the pain. Its hard for him to see me go thru what I do and not being able to help. But he has also educated himself on my illness and is my rock when I am in my worst pain. I love him dearly.

I always say that him being there is helping enough as there isn't really anything he can do. He brings me cups of tea and gives me a massage sometimes if I'm feeling up for it.

Hey, be grateful that you've a partner that asks if they can do something, rather than say that you're not really hurting, it's all in your head, don't believe you (that's the worst ) or on & on....be thankful and let them. Hugs

I really think that I've stopped asking because nothing helps and I think he just got tired of asking or massaging my neck back and shoulders for hours at a time.

Mine doesn't ask anymore...if I need something I ask him. He gives me a hard about then he will do it.
