I went back to work today after being home for a week, and after about two hours I felt like someone had beat me up! I've never felt this hard to describe pain. Everywhere my clothes touched, my skin hurt. The pain was horrible! I'm still hurting now, but not as bad. Anyone care to share?

Members rallied around someone experiencing severe, all-over skin pain after returning to work, validating that this unbearable sensation of clothing touching the skin is a common fibromyalgia flare-up. Several members shared practical strategies that have helped them manage similar episodes, including taking medications daily to prevent flares, wearing looser or stretchy clothing, pacing activities with rest days in between, and listening to the body's signals before pain becomes overwhelming. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy with doctors, learning one's own limits through trial and error, and leaning on the community for understanding when the pain feels isolating or impossible to explain.

Unfortunately, that is very typical of fibro pain. I describe it as a feeling of being in a vice. If it gets really bad, I have liquid Vicodin on hand. Liquid gets into the system faster without the side effects typical of Vicodin.

I was diagnosed in 1998 (almost 20 years now) but probably had it a few years longer since docs back then weren't familiar with it and wrote me off as psychosomatic (all in my head). So, if you haven't been diagnosed yet, don't let the docs write you off.

I actually buy my clothes 1 size bigger to ease the pain from the cloth touching my skin. I try to buy jeans that have some elasticity in them and lightweight tops (usually cotton or rayon). these seem to work best for me.

Obviously, it's taken time to figure out what works for me so don't beat yourself up out of frustration. Learn what you can and can't do, how often, rest when you need to.

Perfect example at my stage - if I run errands today, I know I need to rest tomorrow. If I plan an outing, I need to rest the day before (to have the energy) and the day after (to recover).

I no longer work so I'm able to pace myself.

Feel free to contact me if you need more understanding. Gentle Hugs!

Yes, the pain is unbearable at times. Have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia? A Rhuemotologist is the best Dr. to see as other Dr.s may not give a proper diagnosis and you waste time and money. You will also find many medications don't work but as they say, "let's try this". As you know people react to medications differently so it is a hot or miss situation. Same for other conditions that seem to come along with fibromyalgia, hate to be the bearer of more bad news. The secret is moderation in everything you do and as your body dictates. It is very important to listen to your body and respond accordingly. Your lifestyle will change if it has not done so already. Rest when you need to, exercise is important when you can, do not over do things that will only create what is called a "flare up" (which will put you in more pain). There is so much more to this but for now, I hope this will help you. Take care of yourself, prayers and gentle (((hugs))) going your way. I hope you have better days. Remember we are here to help you and you are not alone, we all have been or are in the same boat. You will need to become a "warrior"" to fight to endure this.

Most definitely a flare up. Listen to your body and don't overdo yourself. You're only one person. I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I take up to 20 different medications. I went to the dentist the other day. Come to find out that a lot of meds that I take for sleep such as Seroquel, and Savella for my Fibromyalgia, and Zyrtec for my allergies, give me dry mouth and cause cavities. I have 9 now. I have to find some different meds or go toothless. I also go to pain management because my pain is unbearable. I have venous insufficiency of the legs. That's very painful. I also have asthma, polyneuropathy, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, insomnia, memory impairment, gait impairment, and there's probably something I didn't state. Fibromyalgia is no joke. Like everyone said, prayers and be strong. Take care. I'm not up here as much as I such be. I suffer from depression really bad. I've been turned down for SSI 3 times. I have a lawyer thank goodness.

Hi. Yes it can get that bad. I can scratch an itch and it will feel so terrible. I can still feel where I scratched and it will hurt for quite awhile. I can hardly ever wear a bra and I don't go anywhere without one, but gave up underwire bras long ago. I'm sorry you hurt so bad. Definitely listen to your body as others have suggested. We are all here for each other.
