Members shared mixed experiences with amitriptyline for fibromyalgia, with many praising its ability to improve sleep quality after years of insomnia, though several noted significant weight gain as a major drawback that resolved quickly after stopping the medication. Several members reported the drug did little for their pain, with some experiencing serious side effects like suicidal thoughts, memory problems, or morning stiffness from sleeping too deeply, leading them to switch to alternatives like gabapentin, duloxetine, or low-dose naltrexone. A recurring theme was the frustrating trial-and-error process of finding the right medication balance, with members emphasizing the importance of weighing benefits like better sleep against costs like weight gain or cognitive effects.

Amatriptoline was horrendous for me, it's supposed to work on depression aswell as nerve pain, however it made me very suicidal and was taken off it after a month. The same with gabapentine, progabalin. After alot of trials I can take duluxotine I'm up to 2 a day along with zapain, tramadol and now morphine. My life is a shambles, I forget my granddaughter name, small words that should come easy and have the attention span of a gold fish 🐠

I've been on 100 mg a night for 10 years. It worked wonders for me until a recent flare up and I haven't experienced weight gain.

Amitriptylene has been a wonderful miracle for me!!! Sleep through the night for the first time in thirteen years!! Have only been on it for six-nine months and have gained a bit of weight I think but it's worth it so far!!!

Was on it for years & helped me sleep but the weight gain was unbelievable & not worth it to me. I had no withdrawals from stopping it & was shocked by that & all my weight came off -within 3 months I was at my normal weight with no dieting or exercise. Was quite shocked that that was why I had gained weight & nothing I did helped me to lose it when I was on it. My prescription had run out & didn't get it refilled cuz I was quite busy at the time & I started to lose weight really fast & realized it was because I was no longer on it. It didn't do anything for pain but I really liked how it helped me to sleep💕

@A MyFibroTeam Member - I agree it's great for sleeping but I was on it for 10 years- hence the weight gain. I do miss that wonderful sleep♥️
