Changing Careers
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Are there careers or part-time jobs out there that a person with Fibromyalgia and many symptoms could thrive in? Formally a teacher. Would appreciate feedback that does not involve working with children. Thanks!

Tough question. I worked in a grocery store for awhile. Loved the work but they wanted me to do a few nights a week which I couldn't do because by 4:00 I was just too tired. Also worked as a helper for disabled people. Took them to doctors and grocery shopping. Also liked that job but really didn't make enough for the amount of time I spent in my car. My favorite job was working for my brother on the farm. I loved working with the animals but my body fell apart and most of the work required strength. I have a degree in accounting but couldn't stand sitting long enough to actually work in that capacity. If you can find something that is flexible that usually works out the best.

I worked childcare for over 15plus yrs. Had to give it up was taking a toll on me. Been trying to get disability for over 3yrs, still waiting. So I decided to work from home w/ a skin care/cosmetic company. Been using their products for 20yrs. Decided I needed something positive to do. Love it. It is hard but you work when you feel like it. We can do alot w/ technology. You are an independent contractor but they give you all the tools you need to succeed. Let me know if you want more info.

Am a teacher myself, and am on disability. Volunteer twice a week for 40 minutes a day teaching algebra at a small not-for-profit democratic school. No pay, but maybe someday...

I loved doing massage therapy and skin care, facials. Would still be doing it if i hadnt had shoulder surgery. Dark room, soft music, one client...controlled environment. I found the repetition of the movements quite relaxing.

RachelCaruso,
Would love to know about the skin care/cosemetics company you work for from home.
