Members reflected on the value of connecting with others who have fibromyalgia or chronic pain, describing how in-person meetups for coffee and shared humor create a sense of normalcy and mutual understanding that's hard to find elsewhere. Several members emphasized that real understanding comes only from lived experience, noting that even close family members who've watched them struggle for years still don't fully grasp the reality of chronic pain and fatigue. A recurring theme was the healing power of laughter and community support, with members encouraging each other to organize local gatherings like progressive coffee mornings to foster connection and lighten the emotional load together.

Unless someone actually has fibromyalgia or another similiar chronic pain or fatigue disorder, you can try to make them understand but they never will. My family has watched what I go through with Fibro for 10+ yrs, and they still don't get it. Even with all of the explanations, brochures, etc., I could just as well beat my head against the wall and get pretty much the same results. I wish this on no one but some days it would be nice to get rid of it for an hour or two...pass it along to hubby, kids, whoever..just to give them a little taste. That is the only way to really understand, otherwise it is just words.

I have a couple of people one close to where I live who I met for coffee. We exchanged facebook addresses. It's nice to have fibro friends amongst normal friends as we share jokes on line far more often than not, not fibro related which adds a sense of normality to life. But we have an understanding and are in tune when others arnt. I have noticed less silly coments from some people about my abilities since fibro friends have been giving understanding comments. Its suptal but I think its makeing others think more. who know me, plus you don't feel quite so alien in a normal fast paced world.☺

I agree, unless they have it, they likely will have a difficult to impossible time understanding how we feel. 😥
