Members shared their experiences managing costochondritis, a painful chest wall condition that many described as frightening enough to send them to the emergency room fearing a heart attack. Several members found relief through topical treatments like Voltaren or Fenbid gel (especially helpful for those who cannot take oral anti-inflammatories), heating pads, muscle relaxers like Tizanidine, and medications like Clonidine to manage blood pressure spikes that often accompany flares. A recurring theme was the unpredictable nature of the pain, which can last seconds or persist for months, and the importance of rest, avoiding twisting movements, and distinguishing this chest wall pain from cardiac issues through medical evaluation.

#Cindy1310, yes I know well how you feel. I find that reading Psalm 97 gives me comfort. I don't feel that God is being mean to us, that suffer from Fibro. I feel that God is using us to help bring in His Kingdom. He tells us to endure. Proverbs 3:5-6. Big gentle hugs

#Marci62, I had that problem almost every day. The squeezing of the chest would get so intense that I couldn't breathe. What helped me was to go to bed, turn on the electric blanket and lay very quietly until all the muscles were totally relaxed. This would take a least 1 hour. Now that I have my meds working better, I don't have trouble with it like I used to. Gentle hugs to you sweet child.

I take protonic and alot of tums because I get the same pain. I have GERD and an ulcer on top of everything else that comes with fibromyalgia. Sometimes I feel like I am having a heart attack the pain gets unbearable. There is also alot of food that when I eat it feels like a knife going down my chest. The whole fibromyalgia disease sucks!!!! Gentle hugs to you all!!!

I have also on 3 occasions ended up in A and E thinking I was having heart attack, this was due to anxiety attack twice then the other time was due to muscle tightening and relaxing. It's frightening and makes you feel stupid for wasting people's time. But it's better to be safe than sorry x
