Members shared widely varying timelines for disability approval, ranging from just three to four months on a first application to ongoing battles lasting two to three years, with several noting that approvals often came faster when osteoarthritis was the primary diagnosis alongside conditions like fibromyalgia, anxiety, or depression. Many members emphasized the value of working with a disability lawyer to navigate the process, though experiences differed on whether initial denials were inevitable, with some securing approval on their first try while others faced multiple rejections before reaching an administrative hearing. A recurring theme was the importance of persistence, thorough documentation of all qualifying conditions, and patience through what can be a lengthy and frustrating system.

@A MyFibroTeam Member that is not true that EVERYBODY gets turned down on the first try. I know people that have applied without a lawyer and was approved the first time.

I filed in June 2012 and was awarded disability on my first try ... main reason thought was osteoarthritis. Fibro was the secondary disability.
