Does Anyone Else Have Problems Keeping Down Pain Medication?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

For the life of me I can not stomach pain pills. I've tried different ones but I always vomit like crazy when I do. I've tried Percocet, Meloxicam, Oxycodone and the latest Tramadol. I wish I could take them because I know it would help with the pain. I always make sure I eat and drink something to coat my stomach. Since I cant stomach them I've asked my Dr. to just prescribe me the Naproxen and Ibuprofen. I also combine with Aleve as well. I truly don't know what else to take. Anyone… read more

Nucynta is for pain, & the doctors are happier to prescribe it, because of the less side effects And because it doesn't seems to have the potential for addiction that others have.
I too love the Voltaren gel. I also had prescription Lidocaine/Prilocaine, but for some reason, it's bloody expensive! But nowadays you can buy Lidocaine cream everywhere, it's 4% not the 5% that the Lidocaine/Prilocaine is, but far less expensive ~ I'm guessing around $6. a bottle. Aspercreme has theirs & others as well. We also get it at Walgreens (their own brand). My foot surgeon suggested applying the lidocaine & then the Voltaren gel.

I take Nucynta for pain. FAR less side effects. I too have issues taking pain meds. You're also taking 3 anti-inflammatory meds each of which can cause stomach pain. Ask your doctor about Nucynta & also Voltaren Gel which is a topical pain med & obviously is not going to impact your stomach issues.

Yes. I have to take a promethazine first before I take anything. I take then 3x a day. Otherwise I'd throw up all my meds all the time. I still vomiting more than normal but less with the promethazine it i catch it in time. Also with the bigger pills i have with food or even just a piece off bread something to make it stay down. I try to drink a lot of water to but sometimes it make u nauseous as well so depending on how I feel i take my meds with juice or Gatorade or even coffee especially when I can eat but I no i have to have something on my stomach which is usually everyday.

Have you tried taking a much smaller dose of them? I had taken a hydrocodone 10mg once and I threw it up every time, so my friend said to cut it in half. Then take the other half in about an hour or two later. That worked for me and I didn't get sick. Hugs.
