This only happens at night when I'm sitting down and watching TV. My head gets extremely hot and my face gets red (but not hot to the touch), then it goes away and after a while it does it again. This happens for about an hour then stops. It doesn't go through my body just my head and like I said only when I am sitting down watching tv at night. Does anyone else go through this?

I get this as well, however I have been told Fibromyalgia can mess with your body's ability to regulate it's temperature. And why not? Doesn't it mess with everything else? Ha ha. But seriously that's possibly a cause however I too take many medications including tramadol, a blood pressure medicine and cymbalta and some of these cause night sweats and some can also mess with your ability to regulate temperature. I notice every so often I will sweat even when I'm cold, for example I could get out of a hot shower and feel hot but will be sweating! It's crazy! I asked my doctor about all of this and she told me about the temperature issue with Fibromyalgia. Just a thought..
@A MyFibroTeam Member I believe your doctor is right about the tramadol (so why do I still take it right? Fear i think) I've been on tramadol for years now, many. I was out of town for two months helping care for my bedridden, dying grandmother in October and November and there was no way for me to refill my prescription so I gradually ran out. I noticed right away I didn't have what I call "rebound pain" anymore. Meaning when I wake up in the morning my pain is so much worse I shake badly and it's hard to function until the tramadol I take kicks in. It's known when narcotics wear off they create more pain which is another reason they are hard to kick. Also I noticed I no longer had withdrawal symptoms that I never knew were withdrawal symptoms until I ran out and was off the tramadol a couple weeks. I was determined not to go back on it but when I came home I was in such pain from the physical work of caring for my grandmother I wasn't managing well so decided to get some temporarily and sadly I'm back in the daily habit. I wish I could find something to replace them with, I do feel they are part of the problem. Thank you so much for that info!! I'm glad to know it, it helps me think about my future actions :)
I get that too sometimes but it is mainly just my face that turns red and sometimes I suddenly start to sweat a ton and I have to take a shower and change. Then later I'll be fine or sometimes I suddenly feel cold later and can't get warm. Some people say it is the change and I am 45 but when I asked my mom (while she was alive) and my aunts they all said they got hot but all over and never got cold. The doctors I'd talked to so far just shrug and don't seem to want to say anything about it. I am pretty sure it is the fibro.
I'm with u girls, samething, I wear a cold washcloth around my neck which cools me down but this week they r worse, water runs down my scalp, neck & chest....lol ...so I pin a frozen pack in my hood so my body stays a little cooler & not so many explosions ,....lol , mine r ALL DAY ....hurrah !!!! These r different then hormonal. I'm 65 I did go off hormones EXPENSIVE> So it could be both ? BUT my body does feel HOT & COLD together?!?!?!? CRAzY !!! My hair is wet all day never had that during menopause. Well, ladies hang in there..I let u know if I can come up with something better than my washcloth & frozen ice pack !!!LOL God bless with big soft hugs !!!
There could be a number of reasons for the fluctuations in temperature. It is common with a chronic illness for our bodies to go through this. I suffer from the heat and have since I had a heat stroke at the age of 29 years old. I always have a fan on, even in the cold months and I have it directly on me otherwise I get so hot I feel like I am going to throw up. But I also have an electric blanket on my bed that I sleep on otherwise I am so stiff I cannot move in the mornings. I am only 54 years old, but had a complete hysterectomy at the age of 42 years old and went through menopause after that. But just because I went through it then but I don't think that it is over and I think it is possible for it to occur at different times then stop to only start up again until your body adjusts to the hormone changes. Having said this, I also have diabetes which causes fluctuations in body temperature. I keep a washcloth with me to wipe my head and face when I am out and about. I have not experienced the issue of coming in from the cold but I had a thought that maybe if you wait a bit before taking all the coats etc off it might give your body a chance to adjust. Or maybe put a sweater on as soon as you take the coat off. I see it as your body heats up quickly because it is having difficulty adjusting to the big difference in temperatures. Temperature plays a huge role in my fibro and my Dr. signed a form for the electric and gas company so I could get a discount because I have to use it as a life-saving product (for a lack of better words.) My brain is now tired and doesn't want to work...lol
