Members shared their experiences navigating chronic pain medication after someone described developing tolerance and withdrawal symptoms from Tramadol, with many relating to the challenge of finding medications that work without unbearable side effects. Several members mentioned alternatives they have tried, including Nucynta (which multiple members praised for fewer side effects), Vicodin paired with muscle relaxers, gabapentin, and non-medication approaches like heating pads, Epsom salt baths, walking, and hydrotherapy. A recurring theme was the frustration of needing pain relief while facing doctor reluctance to prescribe certain medications, the importance of communicating openly with medical providers, and the reminder to never exceed prescribed dosages despite the temptation when pain becomes overwhelming.

I have not heard of this drug....and I'm a nurse ! Time for research.! Glad I read your post. I'm ready to try anything. Most of us probably don't like taking meds because of the side effects., and try to get by with as little as possible, but when the pain just goes on and on......Blessings Linda WM

I am also on Tramadol. I take it with a muscle relaxer that was also prescribed. The combination of the two helps minimally so I try other home remedies to help ease the constant pain. I use a moist heating pad, I do Edson bath soaks, I try to walk as much as I can which is very difficult and I drink a apple cider vinegar drink. It is not a good thing to take more than the prescribed dosage of your Medes. I truly hope that you will find some relief soon.

I wish I knew of a safe med. They all have potentially harmful side effects. But, after putting up with the pain I do take ibuprofen, aleve and Tylenol (not all at once) Even Gabapentin and Lyrica were helpful, then they turned on me and I became a mental case ! I've found watching my weight (need to loose about 14 lbs.) and what and how much I eat makes a difference. Drink a lot of water, find ways to relax and try to stay positive. Thankfully, my sister is a good support. She also has chronic pain issues. Blessings, everyone !

I take a muscle relaxer(robaxin), gabapentin, diclofenac( for arthritis), and Savella. I also go o hydrotherapy twice a week.

I don't get the itching with the Nucynta & doctors are happier about prescribing it. And like most everyone on this site, I need pain meds. It is so frustrating to find a medication that works, like Soma or pain meds & the doctors don't want to prescribe it. We're not all addicts! ! !
