I will be flying to Minot ND this year. I will be going out of Heathrow or Gatwick, and will have to make at least one, if not more changes. I'm concerned that since my condition is seriously getting worse, how to deal with the jet lag, my illness, and any other issues that might arise. It will be a long trip since I have to travel several hours to the airport, wait three to four hours because it is an international departure, fly for six to seven hours, have a lay over, then fly another hour… read more

Hi I don't know when you are travelling, but it sounds similar to our travel in March last year, to Florida , I would advise if you are traveling on your own that you contact the travel company or airline and ask them for assisted boarding, and please before you begin your travel put on a pair of flight socks, they come in 3 or 4 different sizes and lengths and really do help my aching calfs started to feel better after 10 minutes of putting them on, I had them on for a total of 18 + hours so I would put them on before you leave home and don't remove them until you reach your destination, when you get in touch with your travelagent or travel company airline direct to book your assisted boarding, let them know that you take a lot of medication I did and was allowed 10 kg of extra luggage to take on board at no extra cost, as long as each of your medication boxes or bottles Etc have your name on but only put 24 to 36 hours of medication in your carry on luggage or what you know that you are going to need, also when you talk to the airline ask them for a seat that is an aisle seat and close to the toilet, they will help as much as possible, I know that you will have a fantastic time, but let your airline know you will need the same assisted boarding on your return, the same seating and need to take your medication on in your hand luggage but if you intend to take more than 20 kg of luggage with you or bring back more than 20 kg then add an extra bag each way as you will be charged £25 for every 1kg from the UK and $30 per 1kg from the USA so please be aware we ended up having to pay over $200 on our way home as you will probably be taking gifts with you and you are a really nice lady that I don't want to get stung by extra weight luggage ,sending you a great big hug have a totally amazing time ,I hope that my information has helped and if you need any more please send me another message.

Hi there it's all very daunting anytime we go anywhere, you need to relax as much prior to and after as possible, but equally get up during the flights, I sieze up if I just sit which makes me even more achy and stiffness, get some flight socks if you haven't already, unfortunately there is no getting away from the fact it's going to be long and tiring and you will be shattered but making sure you rest prior during and after is essential.
Restless your Meds I carry what I need and yes have a prescription folded in my bag as proof although not necessary, I wear my morphine Patches and the others if I'm away more than a 1week go in my case, I nearly always get a stress headaches when travelling so yes medication for that too, make sure you drink plenty of water to flights always make me dehydrated probably the cause of the headaches... there is not much else I can say and I'm sorry I'm not much use, just take care and try not to dash around, I always used assisted travel to ring who you booked with or the airport and ask for help, they push you everywhere even through customs and security, and if like me you are unable to climb stairs they will put you on the lift if needs be you will be first on all flights and last off but there is no queuing as they collect you and take you through customs etc with the greatest of ease. Hope you are OK take it easy and let others help xx
Thanks again everyone. More and more great information keeps coming and trust me, I will be pulling up screen shots to keep on track with all the great suggestions. My mum is already looking for her flight socks for me. Gentle hugs xx

Try not too worry too much and I hope you have a good time x
Plenty of sleep(neck cushion ) on your flight out and lots of water, don't forget your flight socks on 2/3 days before you fly and the same when you arrive.
Lots of water and a warm blanket don't forget a little exercise won't hurt u if u arrive during the day don't sleep till it's night and get up early in the morning, eat correctly and exorcise plenty and your jet lag should be minimal that's how I used to cope 👌
