How Do You Motivate Yourself To Get Things Done?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have osteoarthritis in my knees, and recently went to physical therapy for it. The PT was incredibly helpful and I was doing really well keeping up with my exercises. But then the depression started creeping in again, and I found myself doing my PT less and less. Now, of course, my knees are back to hurting.

So, how do you motivate yourself to at least do the minimum of what you have to do? It's so hard some days to get myself to do anything.

If I really want to do something I plan for it - make sure I am doing nothing else major before or after, get plenty of rest, plan everything out ahead of time and leave time to rest after.

I do my best to focus on remembering my pain at it's worst. That's motivating enough.

Melanie, I finally dragged myself back to my orthopedist. He gave a shot of cortisone in my left knee. I can get up and down from a chair and walk a few steps now. Quite an improvement. But when the chronic fatigue sets in, I can't even get out of bed for the day or more. Then of course, when you are back to normal, you work twice as hard and could crash again. You have to remember to pace yourself and rest.
Your exercises, if like mine can be done watching TV. Don't count, just keep them moving. That might help.

Great tip, I will have to try it soon. I usually do just the opposite and that is set the timer when I rest. I like the idea of trying it just the opposite, thank you MaisyScott.

Hi Melanie ☺ this happens so easily dear friend that we lose motivation and forget how to get back on track. Best way is to start in the morning before you get out of bed. Do some gentle streches with your head side to side. Use a scarf if you dont have a exercise band to lift your arms up one by one of you can't raise them high by yourself then do same with your legs comfortly as you can. and make sure your back is supported by a firm pillow do this half hour after yout breakfast and your medication. open a window slightly. Then put some very upbeat music you like on from YouTube as your doing all this. And if you can have a white candle burning safely same time it's brilliant for lifting depression. After doing all this you get a nice none fizz drink like water or maybe a nice hot cup of red bush decafe tea with tiny bit of honey or one sweetener if you want a sweet taste .sipping it as you lay back an rest for 10 minutes don't put a film or anything on TV or you will fall back into no motivation again. Instead get some small jobs around the house done and then just again take a few minutes rest and maybe get a few minutes of fresh air outside even if it's just outside your door. Get into a routine of doing this and don't eat anything or drink much after 7.30 at night so you won't be feeling sluggish or feel you need something nice to eat and won't be gone to the bathroom as much breaking your sleep. I do hope what I'm sharing here helps .it's helped me but also my last clients and also my members in my Facebook health an healing support group all these years. ☺
