Members responded with reassurance to the fear that memory problems from fibromyalgia might be dementia, with most agreeing that fibro fog is real and often made worse by medications like Cymbalta, Lyrica, and Gabapentin. Several members shared that reducing or changing their medications led to noticeable memory improvements, while others found relief through better sleep, staying hydrated, and eating enough healthy carbs. A recurring theme was the importance of talking to a doctor, getting tested to ease fears, and using practical tools like written lists and reminder notes to cope day to day.

It's probably a combination of fibro fog and reaction to your medications.
At one point, early after my diagnosis, I was taking 36 different prescriptions...I was a zombie... couldn't think, having seizures, it was horrible!
I am now taking only ibuprofen for my aches and pains. No antidepressants, no sleep meds, no opioids, nothing but ibuprofen and my memory is back.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, do you also take medications? Several of them contribute the the bad memory. When I was on Cymbalta my memory was so bad it scared me because my mother had Alzheimer's. I'm now off of Cymbalta and my memory is much better.

Wow, I had no idea fibro and lupus could cause such bad memory problems! I thought I had dementia or even Alzheimers! I just turned 55 and my memory is getting worse and worse. I also find that I am VERY clumsy on certain days. It's as if I drop every single thing I touch or knock things over. It's so frustrating! Does anyone else have clumsiness with fibro and lupus. Oh, I also have a brain tumor (benign) but it is symptomatic. I guess that could be part of the problem, too.
Gentle Hugs!
