OK I see a lot of people talk about weight gain because of gabapentin. If you check online there is no weight gain listed as a side effect of gabapentin. So how come people are saying this?? I know I have gained weight but there could be several reasons.

Members widely affirmed that gabapentin causes weight gain despite it not being officially listed as a common side effect, with many reporting rapid increases ranging from 10 to 60 pounds, sometimes attributed to fluid retention or slowed metabolism. Several members shared that their doctors confirmed the connection between gabapentin and weight gain, while others noted that reduced physical activity due to chronic pain, other medications like Lyrica and amitriptyline, and conditions such as thyroid issues also contributed to their struggles with weight. A recurring theme was that every body reacts differently to medications, and while some members experienced significant weight gain, others had none at all, highlighting the importance of listening to your own experience and advocating with your doctor when side effects occur.

if you have children and you can remember when they were teething they ran a fever and had loose stools and the dr would say oh no teething does not cause a fever ! but it did ! not all things are known ! and some peoples body react differently to one drug then others ! i know with lyrica you can gain lots of weight ! and since i only go to the restroom maybe once a week causes me to gain weight ,but i also have 4 tumor's on my thyroid !and they have not gotten the MG"s right that causes all kinds of problems ! slow metabolism can also make you gain weight ! and of course being bed ridden and not moving also causes weight gain ! my sister has been in the bed for 6 years and only leaves to see the dr and she has not gained more then 6 lbs as for me i am running here and there and do not lose lbs ! but i do have CHF so if i took my meds i would go down in weight but theres a catch 22 , if i do take my meds i am not able to urinate all the fluids due to two bladder surgeries so i end up in pain ! well any ways we all have different reasons why we can't lose or we gain ! love and blessings with love and peace be put upon all always michele!

I gained weight on Amytriptalene! I tried Gabapentin because of restless leg syndrome but couldn't function on them, I've lost a lot of weight now due to my heart going too fast on amytriptalene but I was on a high dose at the time! My sister takes lots of meds and she has no side effects, myself I take one codeine I'm knocked off my feet so think it is a lot to do with different people, different tolerance and side effects!
