Many doctors prescribe anti inflammatory meds. They do not work because Fibromyalgia is a central nervous system disorder. There is no actual inflammation with Fibromyalgia. It is treated by anti depressants and pain meds. My ENT who was treating my sinus infection told me that Fibromyalgia is a BS diagnosis. Many doctors know very little about our diagnosis. The reason for the antidepressants are prescribed is because both : depression and Fibromyalgia are due to lack of or imbalances in neural transmissions. My psychiatrist treats my depression and pain. He was already treating my depression when my primary doctor diagnosed Fibromyalgia. I still see the same primary for things unrelated to Fibromyalgia ( which is not much because Fibromyalgia involves so much). It is my opinion and only my opinion that psychiatrists and neurologists are the best disciplines for treating the many symptoms of Fibromyalgia gentle hug sent.

Yes I was prescribed it and I took it for a few days and felt terrible. My future mother in law is a nurse and said DO NOT TAKE CYMBALTA! she also has fibromyalgia. She said she has dealt with so many patients who were in bad shape from cymbalta. I started reading reviews for the stuff and the withdrawals are enough to make me realize I'd rather be in pain than be hooked on cymbalta.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, I don't think there are any "experts" when it comes drugs. Most doctors are not educated enough on what these drugs do...but they don't care.
Several doctors have their patients on 120mg of Cymbalta a day, even the makers of the drug do not recommend that. There are over 5,000 lawsuits against the makers of Cymbalta for the horrible withdrawals it causes. Cymbalta was not made for fibro and they should stop handing it out like candy.

Google Cymbalta ruined my life and see if you still feel the same.

I am finally weaned off of it but it was not easy. But other people have had a lot worse time than I did. There is a Facebook page called " Cymbalta hurts worse" with over 5,000 members. Just reading there stories will open your eyes to what SSRI'S can do 😟

I have found that unless your pain is associated with like disk issues or neck/back pain, pain meds neither work nor prescribed. The best thing to mearly ease the fibro pain would be a nerve med, stretching, less stress, baths and rest. If you can, my experience is if I lye still too long I hurt more. Fatigue causes headache and aggrivation triggers a flare, flares are tricky, in that they could last a minute or a week.
Praying you find what works for you, as we are all different and through trial and error, we find what works for us.
Gentle hugs 💜

Have they suggested cymbalta and or lyrica or neurontin? These can help fibro pain too and are not addictive drugs.
