I have been out on unpaid leave (disability denied by work insurance carrier-they don't recognize fibromyalgia) for almost two years and now my doctor won't return me to an 8 hour day due to my health. I most likely will never return to a classroom teaching position. Are there any legal things I should be aware of? If I can't teach due to my health, and need to resign...how do I inform my school district?

JV - do you have a teachers union that someone could help you with the logistics of resigning?
In the Americans Disability Act a employer has to help out like a chair for you to sit and teach. I don't know what you are having problems with but think of a way to be able to teach that is less stressful for you and make it easier. Just a thought!
I wrote a letter saying I am resigning for personal and professional reasons. I didn't have fibro but was sick with reduced kidney function (kidney disease) then I got better and was able to go back for a little over 2 years. Never burn your bridges. I don't know your age though.
I'm so fortunate I have a job doing dyslexia intervention/tutoring so I'm off my feet most of the day. I don't think I could teach full time in the classroom anymore
