We have 4 dogs in our household, and I believe if you are an animal lover, that any animal is great emotional support! My husky, Aine, is a registered support animal. She is great at reading my moods and knowing exactly when i need the extra love. Since being diagnosed with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, she has been my lifesaver. My wolf hybrid, Kenai, is an emotional support animal, and is being trained as a service animal. He is also great at sensing my emotional needs, but can also sense my physical pain. He knows exactly when to be careful and stay away because touch hurts, but is so very helpful when i need his support to move around the house. He has kept me from falling more than once! He can help me get to the bed or bathroom when i need it. That being said, they are very well trained animals, and i have been training dogs my entire life. As someone said above, getting a puppy and devoting the time and effort to train them would be the death of me! If you are considering a dog, you would definitely need assistance with this. Or maybe a cat would be a better option, as there is a lot less training involved and they are much easier to care for. Since there are so many regulations surrounding animals in housing and treatment, I suggest you speak to both a Therapist and doctor to determine exactly which one would be helpful to you.

Sorry that was an error!! After three failed surgeries, I thought many times of suicide but my Buddy made my life worth living. I know people think "oh they are such a huge dog" but they are known as gentle giants and that's exactly what they are. They are big enough that you feel you are with a human with unconditional love and they don't care how bad you are feeling, they will be laying right beside you in bed! I cannot say enough about my Buddy and unfortunately I had to put him down in July from old age! I cry everyday and here we are in December, I miss him sooooo much! I am on the fence about getting another one cause my health has gone downhill and of course I think I'll never find a dog like Buddy! I'm sure within a month or two, I will have a new best friend cause it's too depressing without him! Good luck and go with your heart! You won't regret it!

My emotional support as silly as it seems are my parakeets. They get me out of bed in the morning and they seem to respond to my talking with little chirps. They have a variety of vocalizations and I know what most of the mean. If I respond then they stop chirping so I must be doing something right in their eyes. One time I had left the light on in their room and in the middle of the night I got a high pitched call and this happens quite frequently. If the light is off I never hear the shrill call. One of them does not like to be disturbed sleeping and she will complain in an irritated tone if I come near her cage to get something. It beats talking to the wall. They sing songs with me. My mother calls me crazy

I forgot to mention, I have the best luck with rescue/pound animals. Often the backgrounds are known, the animals all ready have basic training and they are so happy to have a home!

When I first got injured at work and was awaiting surgery, I knew previously being so active, there was no way I could sit around all day. I rescued a dog, which you can find a rescue site for pretty much any breed, but I chose a Great Dane! He was my life saver but I did get him at six months old. He knew when my arms were throbbing and he would lick them, it sounds gross, but it was like the most soothing massage! I went through some very depressing years after three FACK
