My husband is having the hardest time with his medication, he was on oxycodone 15 mg, and 20 mg oxycitin for awhile till it seemed that did not work anymore... He also had a pain pump that never worked for him, they started with morphine then Dilaudid when that did not work... Finally realizing he had Opioid induced hyperalgesia going on.... So my husband checked himself into a rehab place to detox off all narcotics, and have since received a diagnoses of Fibromalgia, and was given 100 mg… read more

Members shared diverse experiences managing fibromyalgia and chronic pain, with many noting that medications often work only temporarily before requiring adjustments or combinations to maintain effectiveness. Several members described helpful strategies including medical marijuana for relaxation and appetite (though not always pain relief), Fentanyl patches for steady pain control, warm water therapy, heat therapy over ice, and prioritizing restorative sleep with medications like Elavil. A recurring theme was the importance of working closely with pain management doctors to find the right medication combination, being cautious about mixing similar drugs like Lyrica and gabapentin, and taking control through lifestyle adjustments and learning personal pain triggers.

I am researching and listening to others. What I am seeing is no matter what type of medication, it seems to work short term. We have to take control of our lifestyle and find what triggers our pains. If a certain move or exercise causes us a flare up then we need to make adjustments and try another way of doing things. It is through trial and error. I found that if I use heating pads it helps more than ice. The only time I use ice packs, will be for my migraines as it suppresses the pain otherwise I use my heating pads and blankets to keep my muscles warm and moving. I also found that every now and then I need to get up and move around. The more you are on this site, you can learn from others. I also see people utilizing a warm pool as it is hydro therapy.

I too want to weigh in on the Marijuana, it helps with all pain. Morpine is a very tricky narcotic, and Lyrica is a schedule 4 narcotic. What that means is it is a step down from schedule 2 narcotics like morpine, oxycontin, percocet, vicodin Lortab etc. More or less any thing that requires a hand writen prescription from the Dr.

Also, Lyrica & Neurontin (gabapentin) is in the same class, very unusual for them to prescribe both. He will have to find the write mix for him. My experience is not to let the pain get out of control to began with. Also sometimes we become emuned to the meds bc we have been on them to long.

I have a low tolerance for pain, but a high tolerance for strong narcotics. I take Percocet 10/325 (oxycodone with tylenol) and use Gabapentin 1,200 mg daily with tramadol for break through pain. I also take extra tylenol on very bad days. to relax my body a muscle relaxer old medication been around for yrs called baclofen.

I hope & pray your husband can find the right combo of meds to ease his pain. I would consult with your Pain Management or the Dr.

May I interject a comment? My symptoms are lowest when I getting good and restorative sleep. I used to be more exhausted and have more pain if I wasn't sleeping well. I've aimed my efforts to get good sleep. I could write another bunch of info, but it's all geared to improve my sleep. My meds are elavil and xanax. But it's later then i thought. I need to get to sleep.

I had months of good sleep and less pain. Right now I'm struggling a bit. btw I'm retired which gives me more flexibility for rest. Good luck.

Lisa anne - I was taking 10mg of oxycodone by itself every 4 to 6 hours. However, it felt like a roller coaster ride for pain as the pain would ease when I took the oxycodone and gradually return until I was hurting so bad until it was time to take it again. I went to the pain clinic about 4 time in toronto and eventually 2 years after I was diagnosed I was prescribed a Fentynol Pain Patch 25 and I was so grateful. It evened things out, I could finally go to the rink again and tolerate the cold to watch my boys play hockey. I can not take lyrica or cymbalta. I have the fentynol patch 25, oxycodone 10mg for breakthrough pain and low dose amytriptile for sleep. The combination works well. Then I applied to participate in a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Clinical Trial in 2016 and was accepted and participated April May into June at Toronto General. Loved it and I have my memory back 100%. I also was able to release the lock on my neck & shoulders. That in itself is a miricle. Now I am going to hydrathletics twice a week, do the stretching exercises at home too and walk the dog. Absolutely no high from anything. I am however, looking into medical marijuana assessment to see if there are better options that are better for us?? My doctor sent a referral two months ago and I still havent got a call for a MJ assessment so that is not a good sign. So I am happy with how things are now since 2013. When I first started the patch I was so mad that they didn't give it to me sooner. I change it every 2 days. I found it wore off after 48 hrs and so they adjusted my dates. You have to be very careful in the shower or swimming. I put mine on my shoulder blades and you need to remit the used one to the pharmacy. They understand that some do go down the drain but the narcotic laws are very strict and it makes it difficult for us honest people who are just following the prescription in order to live as pain free as possible.
Wishing you and your husband all that is good.
