Members connected deeply over the question of whether they have the right to complain about fibromyalgia when others face worse challenges, with the overwhelming consensus being that while perspective matters, their pain is real and valid regardless of comparison. Several members shared powerful stories of loved ones battling cancer, children in pediatric oncology, neighbors facing bankruptcy from medical bills, and personal near-death experiences, yet emphasized that guilt serves no purpose and that sharing feelings within a supportive community is essential for coping, not complaining. A recurring theme was the importance of self-compassion, rejecting guilt, choosing gratitude and positivity when possible, and remembering that everyone's pain deserves acknowledgment even when others may be suffering more.

Every single time I do my shopping or someone asks what's wrong with me I'm honest and give them the list ... I tell them briefly what it means and then say no it won't get better yes I'm stuck with it and they start saying oh I'm sorry but I've stopped everyone of them and always said the same thing... There is always someone worse then me just getting on with it too so who am I to complain everyday?
There's kids in foreign countries dying before they've lived... There's people being blown up just because of thier faith .. No.. I may be in pain 24/7 but I am alive to feel it and I'm alive to witness my kids growing up xx

I know there are people worse than us. I see it every week at Pediatric Oncology at the local hospital. I saw an 18 month old battling brain cancer. I've seen kids 2 and 3 dealing with cancer.. My next door neighbor has cervical cancer and they don't know if they got it all and she has a 3 year old little girl. They are almost bankrupt from all the medical bills. But I think we get caught up in our own situations. One of the reasons I needed to change was I was always depressed about my "lot in life." I have type 1 diabetes, diabetic gastropareisis and fibromyalgia along with thyroid issues and some things that doctors still can't figure out! But I am functional, most of the time and I am a glass half full girl. If you look at yourself always feeling you got a raw deal, you'll continue to get a raw deal. I finally chose to wake up every day in a positive mood and be thankful for what I have....even the pain. Sometimes you can learn alot from the pain we deal with. Whatever, it has helped me deal with living with fibro. Before I just existed waiting for the next shoe to drop. Now, I live each day the best I can and I am grateful for it. This is my own personal viewpoint and what has worked for me. I don't judge any body...it is an awful disease and pain can lead to a very dark place. All I'm doing is trying to stay out of the dark.

@wondering....yes, I know how you feel. I was a PSW..I can't work anymore, but I would be in so much pain but then go see some of my patients that have ALS or Alziemers ect. And then think I've got it pretty good.
Until I can't move the next day...because I work 1!!.
Keep your chin up!!

Agree completely with Lorraine( fibro is painful for all of us & many of us have other health problems that affect pain levels) . Add the personal problems, type of job if working, family responsibility, ability to handle stress, attitude & we may all sound so different πŸ’œ

I have thought that too, and sometimes it's that very thought that has pushed me to go on, however our own plight may be worse than a lot of others too, and our strength will hopefully inspire them. Pain is different for everyone, worse days than others. There are those that deal with - Fibro plus arthritis, fibro plus a broken leg, fibro plus heart ache, fibro plus raising children, But even fibro plus all of the above doesn't mean just having fibro alone doesn't hurt. So it's okay to let others know when we're hurting, but we must remain supportive to others too. πŸ’ž
