So, I just cannot figure out why the two seem to be linked in MY body. I really do believe that the thyroid and fibro are connected. My question is, how many of my fellow sufferers out there are afflicted with hypothyroidism? If you do not have it, are you always tired? Have you gained allot of weight? Do you get horrible muscle cramps? Are your skin and nails super flaky, dry and damaged? My hypothyroidism was discovered after a series of three seizures in one week. After waking up in the… read more

Members shared mixed perspectives on whether fibromyalgia and thyroid conditions are connected, with many describing overlapping symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, muscle cramps, and dry skin, though some noted no direct medical link while others believed their conditions were intertwined. Several members described their personal timelines, with some developing hypothyroidism before fibromyalgia and others experiencing the reverse, while a few shared that thyroid medication did not improve their fibro symptoms as expected. A recurring theme was the complexity of managing multiple chronic conditions, the frustration of treatment side effects, and the emotional toll of ongoing pain and fatigue, with members emphasizing the importance of listening to your body and advocating for thorough testing.

@A MyFibroTeam Member yes is the answer ... With every day you're in pain and can't leave the house or do any thing .... Each time you make plans and have to change them it's just a little bit more depressing .. It chips away at you a little more at a time until you feel yourself getting lost amoung it all :(
But don't let it defeat you too much xx

Its my belief that with Fibro anything is possible. for example i had just about gotten to a point where my pain was bearable but by no means controlled and my Rhuemy had made an appointment for me with the pain clinic at the hospital, fine with me I could do with some additional advice.....
So the appointment day arrived (A friday afternoon) and I waited for my name to be called, it didnt take long so I got myself out of the MOST uncomfortable chairs and dragged my ass to the drs office, where and I swer to you...he tutted at me and said you took long enough......!!! had I been in a stronger mood I would have bitten back but i was hurting badly and just ignored him.
He opened the front page of my file and closed it, looked me up and down (im sitting wonky on another painful chair) and says whats the last drug you were prescribed? so I answered but said that i didnt like how it was making me feel, he interupted me and said give it a chance we are the drs.. now i want you to double the dose you are on and come back in six months, if anything changes in that time visit your dr and literally he got up and left.
now Im not one for complaining...... not about drugs i take 12 each morning 14 each night and have NO adverse effects never have but the tablets i had just been put on recently were making me feel sleepy and making my heart race slighty... and that was on two a day now heres this idiot of a 'dr' telling me to double the dose ...i dont think to this day that he even checked if i was any other medication.
So anyway i go home and start to double the dose and heres where it starts to go wrong and i swear on my life i do not remember the next day or the next two either... i became increasingly delirious and tachycardic i had no clue what was happening and my heart rate sitting down still was racing at over 160bpm+ the 3rd day i was rushed to hospital and they were at a loss as to why my heart was so out of control why nothing they gave me was slowing it...suddenly i had no oxygen in my blood, my lungs had stopped working and they couldnt get any oxygen into my with a bag so i was rushed to surgery to be intubated and to attempt to slow my heart with a shock.
it turned out that the drug the idiot dr had given me had reacted with my other medicines and totally wiped out my immune system leaving me totally open to a chest infection my husband didnt know he had and it mutated into bilateral pnemonia filling my lungs to the point that they couldnt work on thier own, I was intubated andin a coma for 12 days while my body fought it.............
ever since Ive come out of and survived Ive been passing out and cant put weight on, ive developed severe anemia and tremors in my neck........ im scared to go back to the hospital for anymore visits with anyone Ive totally lost faith and honeatly can you blame me?
but yes I think there is a and can be a connection.
