Tilt Table Test

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Bristol, VA

Tomorrow I have to have a tilt table test... I have syncope episodes and they are doing this to see if something is wrong with my vegus nerve. has anyone else had to have a tilt table test? What can I expect? I'm nervous about being tied to a table ( it took my husband several years before he could touch my neck never mind hold my wrists) I don't like being tied down what should I wear there? Ext?

Members shared their experiences with tilt table tests for syncope and vertigo, offering reassurance that the procedure itself is manageable despite the anxiety around being strapped to the table, with several noting they were given gowns and advised to wear comfortable clothing like pants or sweatpants. Many members described their own positive test results and ongoing struggles with syncope and vertigo, sharing practical coping strategies like taking Dramamine or meclizine, moving carefully to avoid falls, and learning to manage symptoms when no treatment fully resolves the issue. A recurring theme was the power of prayer and emotional support, with members encouraging the original poster to stay calm, trust the process, and lean on faith and community through the uncertainty of testing and waiting for answers.

I have had five tilt table tests. All of them were positive. I have learned to live with the vertigo. I have had a lot of procedures to rectify the problem but nothing helps. I've learned to be careful not to fall, sometimes I do fall and hurt myself. This has been going on since 1997. Don't worry the test is not too bad. Be kind to yourself and take it slow. Sending you prayers and good thoughts.🙌

@A MyFibroTeam Member, I have not even heard of this test before now. I will google it to find out. No matter what I want you to know that I'm praying for you and sending gentle hugs my dear! Take care.

I think I had a tilt table test as part of an overall 'balance test.' It was awhile ago so I don't remember it too clearly, but I do remember I kept feeling like I was going to fall; turns out my balance sucked even then. I don't think it matters too much what you wear but I suggest you dress as comfortably as you can. I'm very claustrophobic so I don't like being tied down either but this wasn't too bad as it was protecting me from falling (another fear of mine). I agree with praying beforehand. I do that whenever I have to see a doctor or have tests or procedures of any kind. It's always been helpful for me. Good luck. It's not as bad as it sounds.
