Members shared mixed experiences with Cymbalta causing fatigue, with the most common advice being to switch from morning to nighttime dosing to reduce daytime drowsiness, though several noted the tiredness often fades after the first few weeks as the body adjusts. Several members described practical strategies including adding a B vitamin complex in the morning, reducing other sleep medications if stacking is causing excessive drowsiness, and working closely with doctors to find the right dosage. A recurring theme was that Cymbalta requires daily use to build up in the system and cannot be taken as needed for pain, with members emphasizing patience during the adjustment period while staying alert to side effects like weight gain or anemia that may require blood work or dosage changes.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, Cymbalta doesn't work that way. It has to be taken everyday at the same time, you. don't take it when you are in pain. It usually takes 4-6 weeks after being in your system.

@A MyFibroTeam Member(Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) I was very tired when I was on Cymbalta. I could not keep my eyes open. I would fall asleep watching TV, in the car if my husband was driving I could fall asleep anywhere and that's after sleeping 12-15 hours. After being on it for 2 years I wasn't happy with the side effect and it wasn't really helping so I weaned off. Now i can stay awake during trips in the car and watching TV and don't sleep 12-15 hours a night.

@A MyFibroTeam Member It may not be the Cymbalta which is making you gain weight. Of course, each of us reacts differently to each med. I gained over 40 lbs. when I was prescribed Lyrica, plus I was having neurological problems, so my doctor next prescribed gabapentin. THAT was REALLY bad because my balance was really bad, almost fell over backwards a couple of times just standing up from the commode. People were having to help me step up on a curb, and I had a really hard time just getting up from a chair.

My rheumatologist started me out on 30 mg Cymbalta and I couldn't tell much of a difference in my pain level, so he upped it to 60 mg, which I took at night. Then last month my psychiatrist told me to ask him to have me take the 60 mg in the morning and add an add'l 30 mg at night to help me with depression. I am SO much better now. And my appetite has decreased tremendously. I have lost almost 5 lbs. since changing to that dosage protocol. I like that - I would like a slow, but steady weight loss.

Just keep working with your doctor and tell him how the med is making you feel and ask him if upping your dosage will help. (you didn't indicate what dosage you are presently on).

I have taken Cymbalta for years. It will make you drowsy but I think after a while your body adjusts to it. Ashley Kaye had a good idea about taking it at bedtime. That would depend on how many you have to take. It has really helped me. I now get the generic and it cost less. www.goodrx.com type in Cymbalta side effects.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I was getting very depressed and my rheumatologist suggested I ask my psychiatrist what I might take. She asked if he would change my 60 mg nightly Cymbalta to 60 mg in the morning and an add'l 30 mg at night. I have been on that protocol almost a month now and feeling much better.

Cymbalta should only be taken 1 time daily. It is not an as needed drug.
