Members shared mixed experiences with amitriptyline for fibromyalgia, with many finding it most helpful for improving sleep rather than directly reducing pain, though some reported relief from nerve pain and headaches at doses ranging from 10mg to 100mg. Several members described significant side effects including weight gain, restless legs, tinnitus, muscle twitching, and severe nausea, with a few having to discontinue the medication entirely due to these reactions. A recurring theme was that amitriptyline works differently for everyone, with some members experiencing life-changing improvements in sleep quality while others found minimal pain relief or intolerable side effects, leading many to emphasize the importance of working closely with doctors to find the right medication balance.

I was on it for 6 years it's more a sleeper, the idea being if we are rested we'll get less pain, I had terrible restless legs with it. I don't use a sleeper now as I'm trying to reduce meds, I'm lucky enough to be able to sleep when I need to...anytime lol
It's worth a try, work through the initial side effects...about 10 days n see how u go, we all seem to work differently with different combinations, since I've started exercise I've managed to reduce my meds to just 11 tablets a day n 8 of them are just over the counter pain meds!

Been on it since 2007, it's for sleep and for headaches. Very effective.

My GP started me on one before bed but then my new rheumatologist upped it to five before bed. I haven't slept this good in YEARS!! I would wake up all hours of the night and have to get up because the pain was so bad! Some nights I couldn't fall asleep because of pain! Now, I fall asleep no problem and sleep right through til seven or so in the morning! I though four or five was my wake up time for years but thanks to this wonder drug, amitriptylene, now I sleep right through which is awesome!!! I would recommend it to anyone having trouble sleeping because of pain!!!

I take amitrypriline 30mg going to bed after many years and lots of different meds, I find this helps but still in pain everyday I just think the amount of meds expected To take and side effects from them are not good I only take pain meds when I can't cope anymore as this is only way they work as taken continually you build up a tolerance to them . I have osteoathritis rheumatoid and fibromyalgia.
