I have a appointment at the pain clinic in 4 weeks.

I just want to know what to expect really?

Does it go on for a while?

Do they examine you?

Any information greatly appreciated

Thank you

Rach Xx

Members shared mixed experiences about pain clinic appointments, with outcomes ranging from quick assessments and discharge to comprehensive programs involving hydrotherapy, dietary guidance, medication management, and CBT. Several members found success with specific approaches like pool exercises for strength building, avoiding inflammatory foods like sugar and wheat, and pain contracts for medication management, while others felt the clinics offered little beyond basic suggestions like TENS machines. A recurring theme was that effectiveness depends heavily on the individual doctor, the clinic's approach, and personal willingness to commit to the work, with members encouraging each other to advocate for all available options and remain open to trying different strategies even when facing discouragement.

They can be very helpful it depends if you want to put in a lot of hard work to do what it takes to get the pain under control. I have tried hydrotherapy (pool exercises) it can be quite scary at first but i do recommend that you ask your pain clinic consultant about it, as it can strengthen the body in a safe way taking a lot of pressure off the body and i found it to be very relaxing and also great stress relief. Some specialists will recommend diets etc as certain foods can really help the body. My dr told me to take magnesium to help with some of the shocks of pain down my legs it actually helps but please ask your specialist about it before trying these things. Goodluck xoxo

its an awkward one as every.clinic has different methods they follow. I am under a clinic and attend monthly appointmemts, but for me.its.not working. My clinic offers CBT and GET programmes, and my OT said I didnt need the GET as I was a very actie person before becoming ill and so knew the benefits of exercise, and the cognitive benefit therapy I dont find helpful as i do most of it anyway. most months i just come away with lots of printouts about eating well, exercising when i can and keeping a diary of my pain. I.did ask why they want me to keep a pain diary when they offer no clear pain relief techniques or therapies and she had no answer. Its not worked for me, but they do have a good success rate xx
