I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia after two years of flares and extensive testing. During the same period, I began to suffer from vaginal pain during intercourse. My gyno didn't know what to do because every test came back negative! I believe that I have vulvodynia although my gyno said she doesn't believe in that... I didn't think that it was related to my other symptoms until I got the fibro diagnosis and I've heard that the two often go together.

Vulvodynia is basically unexplained pain of the vulva. Essentially, and I apologize if this is TMI, everytime I have intercourse, I feel a tearing, burning pain at the opening of my vagina. Nothing appears to be wrong there though, and extra lubricant doesn't help. It's driving me crazy because I'm only 23!

@A MyFibroTeam Member Oh man I'm sorry to hear that your pain sounds very familiar to mine I wonder if my dr just blames menopause - would hormone therapy help?

I've never heard of vulvodynia what is that? Ever since I went through menopause intercourse has become too painful including bleeding. My Gyno explained it to me - once your body can no longer carry a baby the vaginial muscles basically loose there elasticity and dry up so no matter what lubricant aids you might use won't help because your muscles have no give too them. My hubby of 20 years has finally accepted this ( thank god) and we have figured out other ways to keep intamacy in our marriage
