Anyone get pain from getting blood pressure taken?
I was at the doctor's office last month. My blood pressure was taken with the automatic cuff machine. It has always been painful to my skin, and as a result, I knew it elevated my blood pressure a bit. My reading was 159/90. I was normally in the area of 140/90. I cannot have my blood pressure taken on my left arm. My left shoulder is always tender and inflamed. I am afraid to get a mammogram because the pain also spreads to my left breast. Some medical "professionals" can be so mean! I'm so sorry you had that experience! It should never happen!
@A MyFibroTeam Member You poor thing! No pedicures! I'm glad my feet aren't that sensitive. I have to have pedicures! It's not just a luxury for me, it's a necessity! The place I go keeps my ingrown toenails under control. I have to go 4-5 times a year. It's not always pleasant but they all know me and they're very gentle. Well, as gentle as they can be and still get the job done! I love all of them there and won't go anywhere else! I'm so sorry you can't get your pedi's anymore! Have you tried explaining to them that you have FM and how pain sensitive your feet are?
Yes I do and for me it doesn't matter if it by hand or by the automatic method. What matters is if they put too much air. The machine is set at least 150 or higher so that people with high blood pressure can be read. So if they do it by hand I ask that they not pump it up past 135 cause my blood pressure runs 117/60 or in that range. Try that and see if that helps too.
@A MyFibroTeam Member I thought my last couple mammograms were more painful too but I chalked it up to gaining weight. I'm waiting for an appointment now. I'm so sorry yours were so painful you left in tears. The technician should have been much more sensitive to your feelings! I hope I don't have any problems this year!! It's true, the only ones that truly know how we feel are those of us who have it! Unfortunately, not all medical personnel know a lot about fibromyalgia or even believe in the diagnosis! This is got to change! We are human beings! We don't deserve to be treated like you were treated. "Man up"...she should have gotten in trouble for that. You don't talk to patients that way! I worked in healthcare for many years...I never spoke to anyone like that!!! I'm glad your doctor is doing an alternative diagnostic for you!! At least your doctor is understanding!! Gentle hugs!! 💜
