Members connected over the question of whether fibromyalgia makes people more irritable, with an overwhelming consensus that heightened sensitivity to noise, touch, and social interaction is a common and frustrating part of living with the condition. Several members shared that chronic pain, certain medications like Cymbalta and hydrocodone, and depleted energy reserves contribute to a shorter fuse, with many describing guilt over snapping at loved ones or needing to isolate themselves to cope. A recurring theme was the relief of realizing they weren't alone or losing their minds, the challenge of being misunderstood by others who dismiss their struggles, and the importance of setting boundaries without shame when managing both physical pain and emotional overload.

I have a shortened fuse now that I'm always in pain and people think the smallest things are a big deal. People are always complaining about things that can easily be changed or fixed around me, things that have no effect on anything and don't mean anything like fighting over the last doughnut or fighting over the tv. It's hard not to be angry when others don't care about what you are going through and make it seem like it's no big deal. People are so stupid when it comes to dealing with what's important and caring about things that do matter. I get angry when they get to do whatever they want in life but still have the gall to make me feel about about not being able to do what I want to do. I think it's ok to be angry at people who think you are lazy and stupid because they don't know what you face on a daily basis. People that are too lazy themselves to try to see the world from another person's perspective. It's perfectly normal to be annoyed by other people because most people are so terrible and self centered that you can't help feeling annoyed. I've always been the very best person I can be to everyone around me, my whole life, but now if I wanna be angry or annoyed, I think it's for the best to stand up for myself and let people who are turds know it. People with fibro deal with enough crap from our own bodies that we don't need it from anybody else.

Wow I thought it was just me. All I want to do is scream Leave Me alone.

Voices, chewing gum, being touched, getting to close to me, will set me off.

I'm glad I'm not going crazy.

Definitely. It is like the sound of some people's voices are like fingernails on a darn chalkboard!! If I am at home I stay in my room unless I absolutely have to come out. If I am out in public and people start to annoy me I just give them this go to Hades look!!
