Members shared compassion over the challenge of weight gain with fibromyalgia, acknowledging how pain medications, limited mobility, and chronic fatigue often work against traditional weight loss efforts. Several members offered practical strategies, including drinking two to three liters of water daily to distinguish thirst from hunger, eating high-protein breakfasts to curb sugar and carb cravings, filling one-third of every plate with vegetables, meal prepping on good days to avoid processed foods, and exploring gentle movement like stretching, low-impact yoga, acupuncture, or cupping to reduce fluid retention and inflammation. A recurring theme was the importance of self-compassion and staying proactive rather than accepting weight gain as inevitable, with many emphasizing that small, consistent changes and community support can make a meaningful difference even when the body feels like it's working against you.

I have found cupping and acupuncture treatments help with fighting water retention. Movement and drinking water do help as week because they help to flush the fluid out of the body. Even doing some stretches when sitting can help with this and weight loss if done consistantly.

Make sure you are drinking lots of water... Sometimes when the body is thirsty the brain sends the sense of hunger. Also I found that when my activity slows down I eat more. So try and find ways to keep busy. Its hard when you are in pain. Maybe mindful meditation or yoga. (There are low impact yoga moves specifically for people with chronic pain. I have a few saved to my pinterest account.) I also try to plan ahead on my good days. Make dinners and lunches ahead of time to save me from fast food and prepackaged food. People with fibro tend to get IBS and leaky gut so they are more susceptible to food sensitivities. Some of the worst culprits are sugar, dairy, gluten, and msg. Food sensitivities can add to inflammation and make pain worse. Hope this helps.
