I have such bad pain in my upper back along with stiffness. It's in between my shoulder blades. The pain is an excruciating ache. It brings me to tears at times. I feel it at night once in bed. It keeps me from being able to get full breathes as well. Does anyone else experience this or know what it is.? Thanks in advance.

Members shared their experiences with severe upper back pain between the shoulder blades, describing it as an excruciating ache that can interfere with breathing, bring them to tears, and worsen during everyday activities like doing dishes or walking. Several members offered potential explanations and coping strategies, including ruling out gas issues with Gas-X, trying heat therapy with a heating pad, considering costochondritis as a possible diagnosis, and using a TENS unit for muscle-related pain. A recurring theme was the importance of consulting a doctor to identify the underlying cause, whether related to spinal issues like disc herniations or stenosis, fibromyalgia, or inflammation around the chest and ribcage.

I do have back issues but this is new and a different kind of pain. I have disc herniations and buldges throughout my spine.

I get horror pain between my shoulder blades and have for years. I also get it in my chest wondering if I'm having a heart attack. My diagnoses is costrochondritis. It's the muscles around the heart that become inflamed and it is the chest and in some cases like mine between shoulder blades. For me, a heating pad does help, but not much else. I so empathize with you. Try the heat and let me know if it helps you. God Bless you.

I've always had this sort of ache in my upper back but it's sorely been getting worse and worse. Seeing my doctor tomorrow. I do have a tens but it feels like my spine not muscles. And can't really put tend on bone. Hurts like the dickens.

I get this but mine is probably due to the spinal stenosis/fibro/chronic pain syndrome combo. Other pain does "feed" fibro unfortunately but I would talk to the Dr about it.

This was one of the first pain symptoms I had. It is so painful!
