Dear my fibro team community,

My husband finds swimming to help his pain relief if (and only if) he doesn't over exert himself. This means he mustn't swim vigorously or for very long (20 minutes is fine) or get water in his ears / nose or swim in chlorinated water.

Does anyone else have similar experiences? Do you have any advice for what works / what doesn't work while swimming?

My husband has terrible sinus pain and face pain also. Does anyone else have sinus and face pain (it is especially… read more

Members shared encouraging experiences about swimming for fibromyalgia pain relief, with many agreeing that gentle water movement like pool walking or using fins helps without overexertion, and one member suggesting wearing old tennis shoes for water running. Several members described severe facial and sinus pain as a common fibromyalgia symptom, offering practical relief strategies including Flonase, saline flushes with NeilMed packets, hot compresses with Vicks, and adjusting water temperature based on symptoms. A recurring theme was finding the right protective gear to keep water out while swimming, with members recommending lightweight goggles, soft waxy earplugs, and specialized nose plugs like the Sinus Saver to allow continued exercise without triggering sinus flares.

I swim 2000 M of freestyle every other day to stay in shape. I wear a nose plug called the sinus saver and earplugs to keep water and chlorine out of my sinuses. I hope this helps.

Flushing am and pm with a saline solution using a squeeze bottle and packets from NeilMed actually has reduced my sinus symptoms. After any gardening, winds, stuffy indoor activity, when exposed to know colds or germs, flush! If stuffy use lukewarm to cool water, if painful, use warm to fairly hot water.

I find relief in the water. I walk and do some water exercises and I float on my back.
