I find it hard to walk or even stand for any length of time due to increasing pain and stiffness. (I did have MRI to check for MS,which was negative). I also have Osteoarthritis in my knees and arthritis in my neck and lower back which adds to my problems. But, I'm curious if anyone else has the same problems with walking/standing?

Members shared deeply relatable experiences about severe mobility limitations beyond typical morning stiffness, describing how standing or walking for even 10-20 minutes triggers intense pain from overlapping conditions including fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, sciatica, and degenerative disc disease. Several members offered practical strategies that have helped them cope, including low-impact walking paired with stretching, medications like Cymbalta and Aleve, using wheelchairs or taking frequent rest breaks without shame, and in some cases finding relief through hip or knee replacement surgery or targeted supplements. A recurring theme was the frustration of not being able to participate fully in life with grandchildren or daily activities, the challenge of distinguishing which condition is causing pain at any moment, and the determination to keep trying new approaches despite setbacks.

Lisa, I feel like you. If I am having a flare, walking is like dragging a dead body along the floor, slow, painful and exhausting. Sometimes standing in line at the grocery store I feel really woozy and very tired...like I'd better go find a place to sit down right now. When I walk, I get a back ache, since my gait is way off.

I have the same problem. osteoarthritis everywhere. 3 years ago back surgery fusion in 3 vertebrae. Did not take pain totally away. But improved it. Am currently recovering from total knee replacement 3 weeks ago. hoping will be able to get back to walking 5 K again. About 10 years ago went on low carb diet. I feel great just being off sugar. Actually increases energy. Lost 70 pounds was able to walk. That is mostly the only exercise could do. Along with stretching is imperitive I believe, as seems my muscles after sitting all day at work ,, is screaming at me to do as soon as I get home! Start with walking and stretching first then anything after that is bonus.

Oh my gosh, you sound just like me. I have Osteo Arthritis in my knees and lower back too, I had one knee replaced and the other one is painful. And yes, walking is bad news. I have to force myself to go to the grocery store because it totally wares me out. By the time I'm putting groceries, into the t ink, my lower back is screaming. Standing is a problem because of lower back Arthritis. But then, if I sit too long my rear and hips start to ache.

I'm looking for answers too. I take Lyrica just twice a day. I can't say that it has helped my pain, but it has "helped" me gain another 10 lbs.

Just today a nurse at the clinic told me that the darkest of chocolate is supposed to help people with Fibro. It must be the amount of cocoa.

Yes, same. 10-20 minutes standing.

I am still walking though less and it helps and I'm wanting to do strength training. My friend wants me to read Starting Strength. You begin with squats in good form. It sends a strong message to the body to live and support itself.
