So, several times a day, but mostly in evening, I have pain that feels like a band tightening around the inside of my
arms right below the elbows and then across my chest up under my ribs (as if your sleeve or bra is waaayyyy to tight). I try stretching, rubbing, nothing seems to help. Then it just goes away on its own. Who has this and is there something I can do for it?

Members connected over the uncomfortable sensation of tightening around the arms and ribs that feels like a band squeezing below the elbows and across the chest, with many experiencing it multiple times daily. Several members shared that warm Epsom salt baths, gentle yoga stretches, therapeutic massage, trigger point therapy, and acupuncture provided temporary relief, while others identified the pain as costochondritis, an inflammation of the muscles between the ribs that people with fibromyalgia are more likely to experience. A recurring theme was the frustration of doctors not fully understanding or offering solutions, leaving many to research and manage symptoms on their own while finding comfort in knowing they are not alone.

My experience with the "vice-grip" in the chest area was with Costochondritis inflammation of the tiny muscles between the ribs. Research has shown that people with FM are 50% more likely of getting this recurring. Not much you can do except try not to do anything to move the arms and the upper body too much. Epson Salt baths. The arms hurt all the way down on me. My legs hurt in my calf just below the knee like "shin splints."

I have the tightening around my ribs, just like said, the bra is waaay to tight. I have tried several things but none of them work. The massage sounds great but Medicare and Medicaid don't approve it. Thanks for the suggestions Deborah Ann.

@A MyFibroTeam Member lol. Go to a reputable chiropractor or your MD to start. They should know. I do not acutually know it but I called my insurance and spoke with them about this and they said yes if it is deemed medically necessary with the proper code we will cover it. I have to pay a $25 co pay per visit but considering a massage is usually $75. it is so worth it and helps so much! Great for migraines, back problems and for relaxation purposes too! I hope it works out for you my friend!

Hello dear one. I get tightness too. What does help me is warm epsom salt baths and, gentle yoga EVERY NIGHT for stretching purposes and the best by far is a massage. Not a massage done by you but by a therepeutic masseuse. I go once a week. It is covered under physical therapy by my insurance with the right diagnostic code ordered by a liiscensed chiropractor or M.D. HUGS my friend.
