Has Anyone Had Issues With Family Members Not Liking What Your Taking?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

has anyone had family members say they shouldn't be taking this medicine or that one because it was going to be bad for you and they keep it up till it gets to the point where you just stop everything cold turkey.

Yes, but it has been a long time since they have done it. My dad used to do that over pain medications.
Then he had a surgery that caused a lot of pain. And I reversed the table on him one day and started nagging him about taking pain medication. He never said anything ever again. In fact when he was able to go without the pain meds, he had 5 left and it was the same thing I was on so he gave them to me.
My recommendation is to remove anything having to do with your meds from their life. It's none of their business what you take, so don't mention it to them, or take it in front of them. Put your meds away somewhere so they cannot see them. If they specifically ask about it shrug it off and don't act like you take them. Because again, it is none of their business.
Some suggestions for you - many medications that are taken daily have some nasty side effects if stopped cold turkey. You can have some nasty withdrawal symptoms and it can make you very sick. And if a medication is giving you relief why give it up for anyone? If it wasn't giving you relief that is different, but always call your doctor first and find out if it can be stopped cold turkey or if you need to slowly reduce it until you can quit.
I still to this day keep all my meds in a drawer in my bedroom so that nobody really knows what I take. My mother knows most of it, but then she has been by my side through all of my cancer treatments this year. So she was having to remind me to take stuff or she was carrying my pain and nausea meds around in her purse in case I needed them.
Unless your family has an idea of what you are going through they will probably never understand the meds you are on.
A lot of people look at us like we are druggies because so many of us take opiate pain pills, what they don't seem to get is we would be glad to not have to take them because that would mean the pain was gone.

It is the other way in my household. I hate the meds the side effects are horrible for me. My husband wants me to try everything out there. I try supplements even some of those have side effects. Never stop medicine cold turkey. The damage it can do is horrible. A lady near here stopped her bipolar medication and then proceeded to do roundabouts in a busy intersection. The police were finally able to apprehend her but all her church family had told her that if she just believed that God would heal her and she didn't need meds. So she stopped. The results were all kinds of crazy. Tell your loved ones until they suffer the way you do they are not entitled to an opinion. Listen to what your doctor tells you. Now if your meds are making you mean like lyrica did to my friend ask your doctor to try something else. I wish you good health and energy.

Tell them they are welcome to go back with you and be educated by the doctor on your illness and the reason you need those meds. Especially if the meds have been helping you. If they do help it is so much better to have the relief than to try and live in that pain. I wish you lived closer to me. I would gladly drive you to the doctor myself. Sadly you are almost 3 hours away.
