I have a trigger point right above my shoulder. The other day it got really really sore. It kept getting worse and worse. Today the pain was shooting down my arm and I could bearly turn my head. I have tried everything I can think of. I tried my heating pad, and as hot of a tub as you can imagine. I had my boyfriend massage it. I have stretched it. I even went to the chiropractor today and she only worked that one spot. Now I am sitting and icing it and the pain is getting unbearable. Has anyone… read more

Members responded to someone experiencing severe trigger point pain above the shoulder with shooting arm pain and limited neck mobility, sharing a wide range of relief strategies that have worked for them personally. Several members recommended heat therapy combined with magnesium flake baths, alternating hot and cold treatments, topical arnica oil or Biofreeze, muscle relaxers like baclofen or tramadol, and specific neck and shoulder stretches including wall climbs, doorway stretches, and towel pulls after warm showers. A recurring theme was the importance of seeking medical evaluation when pain becomes severe, as multiple members discovered their shoulder pain stemmed from underlying issues like bulging discs, pinched nerves, or arthritis that required targeted treatments including physical therapy, trigger point injections, or surgical intervention.

Oh yes I use Arnica mixed with oil and it's like a massage oil only better. It helps shoulders and neck. It has to be the pure Arnica. I buy it from Swanson on the internet. You should try it, I think it's quite helpful.

I had some trouble with my shoulder but it seemed to be a muscle that got really tight in my shoulder blade and would have my husband press on it on the muscle with an object. I was told to do this by a Physiotherapist once and she said to get a small bell and the back of the bell the stem not a sharp one but then have someone push on the tight muscle spot. I don't know it that is what you have though. I also had different exercises I would do for it. I was also told to put cold on it for 1 min. and then change to warm heat for like 2 min. and keep going back and forth. If it's to do with a point above your shoulder I used to think that was caused from my neck. I would stretch my neck and it would help. Another exercise is after your shower take a towel and hold the towel in your other hand up over your shoulder and the bottom on the towel with other hand at a lower point on your back and pull the towel up and down you have the one arm bent it's like a stretch and I find it stretches out the shoulders. I have warmed the shoulders up first in the shower. You could also roll your shoulders back and also forward that helps a great deal. Also there are other stretches you can do one I was taught was to have your arm climb up a wall and stretch it and another one is to stand with your arm bent on a door jam and you stretch it. Another one is to just have you hand grab a door jam and have the arm straight and pull the arm and stretch it. These all help the shoulder. I find if it is your right shoulder where you say above the shoulder I pull my neck to the left just lean it over to the left in a stretch and it helps that part of my shoulder. Then stretch your neck to the right by leaning your head over to the right. You can expand on that by if you are stretching your neck over to the left side you have your right arm drop down and stretch it and that gives you a good stretch then do it on the right and the left arm you have it stretch down while you are stretching the next to the right. You could look up Neck and Shoulder exercises on the internet and they might have some with pictures to help you. If it keeps getting worse you should go to doctor.

Have you trying soaking in a warm water tub of magnisium flakes I had to order mine on Amazon but well worth it I used about a cup per bath! Similar to Epsom salt but I feel it soaks into my body better and helps with the pain!

Massage therapy helps with this. If you purchase arnica gel this helps too, as well as Biofreeze. If you have your boyfriend take an ice cube and go to the spot were you are having pain, and do a circular motion on that spot, it should bring you relief of pain.
