My Dr. Prescribed a prednisone taper after I told him about the symptoms I've been having because he said It sounded rheumatological and wanted to see if the steroids had an affect. He also swapped my effexor for cymbalta. I've been worried for awhile that they may have misdiagnosed me a few years back when they said I don't have MS when my MRI was lesion free even though my neurological tests came back strange and the neurologist thought I had MS
The prednisone has made feel so much better… read more

Whilst I can't give you a medical opinion I can say that I have SLE and Fibromyalgia and that steroids (prednisone) definitely do help for all kinds of pain. They also seem to give me energy. However they are very bad in the long term.
Hope this helps.

They will use steroids for polymyalga rematica though

My opinion only but I have taken prednisone for pain. I find it helpful with flareups. My understanding is it shouldn't be used long term. You should feel better on steroids they hopefully take away the inflammation that tends to slow us down. It can also increase your appetite. Steroids can injure bones from what I recall. If your concerned about MS ask for retest. If you have my luck, you could be told, YOU HAVE FIBROMYALGIA. LIVE WITH IT. I fought my diagnosis for many years. I just don't want you to feel blindsided when you ask for more testing. Hopefully the prednisone will give you many pain free days.

Whoa! I absolutely cannot tolerate prednisone. It is terribly caustic on my system, and makes me crazy.

I don't know the answer to this exactly but I've had to be on prednisone for 3 weeks about a year ago & when I returned to my doc I asked if I could try steriods bc it definitely improved my pain levels. She said she was willing to try it at another time. She did tell me steriods work to improve pain for some people
