My physical therapist is getting frustrated with going in circles and chasing my muscle spasms. So, she asked me if I have ever tried gabapentin before. She has seen it help lots of her patients who have tried it with fibromyalgia. My question is what will it help with exactly and how long does it take before you know it's working?

Members shared mixed experiences with gabapentin for fibromyalgia, with some finding it helpful for nerve pain, burning sensations, and creepy crawly feelings, while others reported it didn't address muscle spasms specifically. Several members described significant side effects including weight gain (ranging from 30 to 60 pounds), extreme fatigue, difficult withdrawal symptoms, and worsening muscle cramps, though a few experienced no side effects and found relief at various dosages. A recurring theme was that gabapentin works differently for everyone, with most agreeing it takes time to determine effectiveness and suggesting alternative medications like tizanidine for muscle spasms or Norflex as options worth exploring.

I tried it for a week and started putting weight on with it. I've tried several different medicines. I am now on a medicine for muscle spasms called tizanidine. It is used for restless leg syndrome and sleep. I'm only supposed to take 2mg but I only took 1mg and my legs were calm, no creepy crawling feeling and I slept soundly

If you take a high dosage of this medicine it seems to help some but the side effects are more to deal with. I was one this med for a while and got off of it after it helped me put on 60 pounds. The Doctor stated to me after the effect that it was one of the main side effects. I said to him, thanks for telling me now.

My doctor started me on Gabapentin 3 days ago. I think I am starting to get some relief from my nerve pain with it.

I don't find it works for muscle spasms but Norflex does if you wanted to look into that.

For me Gabapentin has worked well. I have not had any weight gain with it. I would give it a try and decide for yourself as all medications work differently on each person. Good luck. Hugs and prayers.
