Members shared numerous strategies for managing fibro fog, with the most consistent advice being that symptoms worsen significantly with fatigue, stress, and sleep deprivation, making rest and stress management essential first steps. Several members found relief through specific approaches, including prescription medications like Nuvigil, supplements such as fish oil, 5-HTP, phosphatidylserine, and SAM-E (with cautions about drug interactions), essential oils like lemongrass for focus, and cognitive exercises like crossword puzzles and brain games to maintain mental sharpness. A recurring theme was the profound frustration and embarrassment of losing words mid-sentence, forgetting entire conversations or events, and walking into rooms with no memory of why, with many members finding comfort in practical tools like written lists, phone reminders, daily schedules, and humor about having senior moments or mental pause to cope with a symptom that has no single solution.

I wish I had an answer for you and for everyone else, including myself. I was trying to say something the other day and my brother kept interrupting, he was actually trying to help me find the words I wanted, I hollered at him that every time he gave me a word it put me back a few steps in getting the right word because it took my mind off of what I was trying to remember. I know the embarrassment and sometimes when I am out in public and it happens I want to crawl in a hole and die. I know I am not stupid and my friends and family thankfully know this, but fog makes me feel like I am.

Lots of puzzle type activities help retain my memory and ability to remember things. I like doing cross words or games on my phone that take thinking and problem solving. It actually seems to help. Basically just find ways to exercise your brain.
