Members discussed why they still wake up in severe pain despite taking medications like gabapentin, amitriptyline, and tramadol, with many sharing that muscle stiffness and morning pain remain challenging even on current treatments. Several members described their personal medication regimens, including high doses of gabapentin (up to 2,700 mg daily), tramadol for daytime pain management, and adjusting amitriptyline doses to balance sleep benefits with side effects like confusion or next-day drowsiness. A recurring theme was the frustration of taking large quantities of medication daily yet still experiencing breakthrough pain, alongside practical advice to work with doctors on dose adjustments and remain open to trying different combinations to find what works best for individual bodies.

I recently started taking Amitriptyline 10 mg and plan to increase it once I am weaned off Cymbalta. I find it very helpful for sleep, and apparently that is the most important thing to tackle with Fibro. I also take Tramadol. Gabapentin did not help me at all.

I have taken 9 300mg of gabapentin a day for over fifteen years. That's the max. I stopped taking it once because I couldn't FEEL anything that i could pinpoint that it was working. I couldn't believe how painful it was without them, so I am taking these to this day and have no plans to stop. Maybe EVER! Great stuff for Neuropathy as well.

I should add that I still wake up in pain everyday. The first 30 min or so is brutal! My legs and feet are so stiff and sore I can barely get down the stairs!!
