Started working again because I desperately need money, but it's a physically demanding job and I think I will have to quit. Can't pay my bills or buy my teenagers needed things. Haven't tried getting disability yet. Help!!! Can't find any good work from home jobs either. Any suggestions?

Members openly shared the difficult reality of balancing work with fibromyalgia, with many describing how even part-time schedules leave them in severe pain, unable to function after shifts, and forced to choose between financial survival and physical well-being. Several members offered practical suggestions, including caregiving or nanny work, contract-based roles like event planning or grant writing, donating plasma for extra income, and using services like Allsup to navigate the SSDI application process, which can take a year or more. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of losing not just income but also social connection and purpose, met with gentle encouragement to keep fighting, lean on physician support, and explore every available option without guilt.

I do, but struggle sometimes, I find it does keep me motivated, if I didn't work, I think I wouldn't manage my symptoms as well. Still find it difficult to give in to symptoms when having a flare or bad day, and difficult for others to understand when I 'look' ok. Good luck

Thanks @Craftymum, yes I'm in the mind set to keep doing as long as I possibly can - if I can just get on top of the pain with my meds it would make life easier! Good luck to you all - keep fighting😊

I'm newly diagnosed too and I work part time in retail 11 hours a week - I do one shift and then pay for it the following day then I'm back in again and the same thing happens! I was in work yesterday and was struggling walking I was in so much pain so I'm not sure how much longer I'll cope with it to be honest. It's not just the money it's the social side, I love to be around people and when I'm not I get very low😞

Nope. I've finally had to come to terms with this fact. Even part-time doesn't work out because I can't control when flares & fatigue will occur. It sucks but I do contract work--event planning, grant writing & general fundraising. I also donate plasma for $100/week.
I'm applying for SSDI tomorrow, actually. It's about a 12mo process (& that's without getting denied & appealing--which we should always do). I'm blessed that my wife is the "breadwinner" & loves doing it.
I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I totally understand though.

I work - I just do what I have to do but trust me - it isn't easy . As far as disability goes ... I can't afford to not work to see if I get it or not ..
I hope you find something :)
