Members discussed whether it's possible to claim additional benefits while working part-time with fibromyalgia and ME, with the overwhelming consensus being that Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is worth applying for since it's not means-tested and can be claimed alongside part-time work. Several members shared their own experiences navigating the benefits system, including one who successfully moved from Jobseeker's Allowance to Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) after being told at a Job Centre interview that they qualified, eventually receiving back payments and a higher rate after a medical assessment. A recurring theme was the importance of seeking help from Citizens Advice Bureau or DIAL to complete the complex PIP forms, appealing decisions if necessary, and not giving up even when initially told you're not entitled, as the system can be difficult to navigate and benefits advisors don't always provide complete information.

When I first of all had to give up work I was put into JSA, I then had my interview at the Job Centre & the lady said I should be on ESA. I've been on that since, at first on a low rate which was risen after I had a medical requested by the DWP. I got a lump sum back payment plus a rise to my fortnightly benefit. My GP & psychiatrist have both said they think I would get PIP so I've applied for it.
As the forms are so intense I made an appointment with the CAB for them to help & advise me to fill in the forms. I was in there for nearly 3 hours but hopefully it'll be worth it.
I've not hear anything yet but it's a long process so now it's a waiting game.
Hope this helps. X
