Members connected deeply over the question of whether antidepressants can fully address the depression that comes with fibromyalgia, with the overwhelming consensus being that medications help but cannot completely resolve the emotional toll of chronic pain, lost abilities, and feeling trapped in a body that no longer works as it once did. Several members shared practical strategies for managing depression alongside medication, including therapy or counseling, mindfulness and breathing exercises, gratitude journaling, forcing themselves to get out of the house even briefly, staying busy with part-time work or hobbies, preparing healthier meals, and leaning on faith and community support. A recurring theme was the importance of giving yourself grace on bad days, recognizing that depression cycles with pain and anxiety, advocating for medication adjustments when needed, and focusing on what you can still do rather than what has been lost.

I take 3 antidepressants and I still have days where I get sick and tired of being sick and tired. I think it is just like the pain....nothing really takes it completely away.

Yes I am also on antidepressants and still get depressed at times. Most of the time it's when I feel really bad and am home alone. I just feel like it's not fair that I'm having to lay there in misery and miss out on things because of this stupid horrible disease fibromyalgia! I used to be so active and always doing something around the house or going places. I realize now that I just took that for granted.

I am on Cymbalta as well and it gelps me but yes there are times where my depression is really bad and nothing can help it. I am going thru alot right now and I have 4 kids and a very selfish husband so I have to do what i have to do but i still am able ti hold down a full time job and i workout becuase it help me feel better. I push my self to the limit but i have to because if i dont i wanna just lay down and die. I hate being trapped in this body but its the one god gave to me so i need to try and take care of it regardless of how hard it fights back. I never really belived in religion of any type or paying but since diagnosis i found myself praying and begging god for help.

Oh yes! What I have been through is pure hell. I didn't realize how mean people can be. Even though it's your family. The worst part is is they come here for the summer! Huge anxiety attack coming on.,they believe that I went through a nervous breakdown. My Poor Mom saw it while she was dying too. I started, coming down with Fibro then. Now I don't want to go anywhere or do anything. I used to love to cook. Not anymore. I mess it up everytime! I think my brain has shrunk?

Yes, sometimes I get overwhelmed. Just when you think you have one thing under control bang you start crying like an idiot. lol With every thing we go through it's no wonder that sometimes the depression meds just don't cut it. But we are all here for each other and will get through it with God's help. Gentle hugs
