Members connected over the distressing topic of nightmares and vivid dreams associated with fibromyalgia and certain medications, with many sharing that Cymbalta and gabapentin seem to trigger especially intense or disturbing dreams that linger long after waking. Several members described practical strategies that have helped, including switching medications when nightmares become intolerable, discussing side effects with doctors, using Valium or melatonin, and creating calming bedtime routines with healthy meals, warm baths, and stress reduction. A recurring theme was the relief of knowing they are not alone or crazy, as many members validated each other's experiences and emphasized that nightmare intensity often correlates with pain levels, stress, and overall fibromyalgia flare-ups.

I’ve only experienced at least 2 pretty terrible nightmares since I was diagnosed and I was wondering the same... I can remember them very vividly and they felt so real I could not go back to sleep both times actually almost had a panic attack... fun right?

I get terrible nightmares with FM. I don't believe they're medicine related. These doctors just don't have the answers. I've tried every sleep medication, natural and prescribed and it doesn't seem to matter. When the FM is bad, stress is high, diet is poor, pain levels are high I get crazy insane horrifying nightmares that wake me up. I don't even want to write about them they're so weird. I've tried cymbalta, ambien, melatonin, lots of magnesium, nothing works great. For me, Valium is the best option. I've tried clonopin and that made me feel really crazy, a lot of people have bad reactions to that. I have to remind myself, the best way to get around it is eat a simple healthy meal kind of late, take a warm bath, destress in every way possible and that tends to work best.

I am glad I am not crazy! I have been taking cymbalta for over a month now. The past few weeks - most nights I have the craziest very vivid dreams!
