I have been given Gabapentin by my GP and I wondered if anyone else is taking this medication and how is it helping you on day to day basis.

I am concerned about the possible side effects as I have a small family.

Any advice would be welcomed

Members shared mixed experiences with gabapentin for pain management, with many finding it helpful for nerve pain while others experienced side effects or found it stopped working over time. Several members described starting at low doses and gradually increasing, with some reaching maximum doses of 2400-2700 mg daily, and many noted initial dizziness that subsided as their bodies adjusted, though a few experienced depression or emotional changes that led them to switch medications. A recurring theme was that gabapentin's effectiveness varies greatly between individuals, with some relying on it for years alongside other pain medications, while others found it necessary to taper off slowly or use it only during flare-ups.

I've been on gabapentin for over 2yrs & could not manage without it, it has not completely taken away the pain, but it certainly took the edge off it for me (bearing in mind, I also take it for sciatica). I hope you find this useful & you find the right medication to handle your pain. <3

I took gabapentin for a couple years. It worked really well in the beginning. I had to up my dose several times until I was up to 2400 mg a day. It didn't really work after a while. It took me 6 months to taper off and really took a toll on my emotional state.
